BONE GRAFTING

Rio Dental, located in Juarez, Mexico has the distinction of having a dentist that is specifically trained in bone management and augmentation. Dr. Jessica Andel has received her bone management training at various institutions in the United States. She is skilled at rebuilding bone that has been lost, and in preserving bone for future years of dental health.

Sometimes, a dentist will add supplemental bone after an extraction to preserve the socket or in preparation for implants. Bone grafting is priced by the cubic centimeter and the amount of grafting is determined by the dentist. How much is a cubic centimeter? It is equal to 1 ml.

Our implant doctor, Dr. Andel, performs two types of bone grafting: one is a graft in which cadaver bone is reconstituted with collagen and the other is cadaver bone reconstituted with the patient’s own plasma. Studies show increased rates of healing following bone grafting with plasma.

When the dentist does bone grafting in conjunction with implants, he will either place the implant at the same time as the graft or will have the patient return in a few months. At that time, the dentist will take another x-ray and reevaluate the graft area. If successful, the dentist will begin the placement of implants.

The bone and Implants are purchased in the US and brought to the clinic in Mexico.
